Sara Milenkovska

Society tries to come up with many different definitions about who I am. I find the fuel for my fight against societal norms for women during my process of “unlearning” those definitions. My demand for equal treatment lead me to study political sciences and in a pursuit of creating platforms for those whose voices is left unheard.

I currently work as a monitoring and evaluation assistant in a program in the field of media professionalization, civic initiatives and good governance. My social engagement started in the Red Cross and later evolved in a direction of advocating for gender equality, solidarity and freedom of speech (press) in different NGOs, platforms, conferences, initiatives etc. My vast experience in active debating, debate competitions and later teaching debate to younger generations has helped me refine the manner in which I deliver my arguments and thoughts.

Civic activism, on the other side, has lead me to understand the need for direct democracy and active citizen participation in the democratic processes. Working as a journalist highlighted the need for public awareness and the need for citizens to be well informed.

My bringing up has played a critical and central role in who I am today. Having been brought up by a single mother, who is a poet and a fighter for just social causes has turned me into an idealist who believes that only if we come together as a society and we work together towards a common goal we can improve each individual’s position within the society. That is why I’m so proud to be a co-founder of Stella.
